00 1.9 Replacement ignition key needed - peterjan
I have lost my electronic ignition key, and have been quoted £200 for a replacement. As this is about a 1/4 of the value of the car I am reluctant to splash out on this, can any one advise over a cheaper alternative please ?

{W reg changed to 00 as the box asked for year of manufacture and NOT registration number}

tyr a decent auto-locksmith.

The problem is that the imobiliser is coded to the chip in the key, so it isnt just a matter of cutting a key.

The vag group cars also need a particular code which I seem to remember needs to be obtained from the dealer.

So I suspect that you will not be able to get anywhere very much cheaper.

If you have a spare, it can usually be cloned for about £40, so the ECU sees each key as the same one.

It relies on having a spare key, and taking that to a good locksmith.

I you have lost the only key in your possession, it's going to cost to sort the problem out.
