We are just considering a follow-up to Prudence Proton, now into third year (I suppose we'll get washers for him - bought before all the prices dropped, which I never thought to see).
In relation to these circumstances I note that HJ says good things of the Magentis, especially in relation to the price. And I fancy six pots.
I wonder if anybody has experience of one, and would care to offer any comment?

My boss had one of these delivered to him for a couple of weeks while his company car was away being repaired after a prang. He turned his nose up at first, but he now only has good things to say about it. It's fast, quiet, refined and doesn't rattle. The stereo wasn't bad either, and he said it was dead comfy on long journeys and not bad to drive, very bland though and he didn't like the look of it.
Through previous experiences of Korean cars it should be mechanically as reliable as a Japanese car, although silly things will go wrong. You'll almost certainly lose money on it though, although they do cost buttons to begin with...

Thanks j_james!
Sounds promising; point taken on losing money, but a large percentage on a small sum beats a small percentage on a large sum, perhaps.
Have sent for the brochure; then I shall let them come after me!
Cheers,

I'm looking forward to seeing what they cost after a couple of years, when they should still have plenty of life left.
FWIW, I think they are moderately handsome.

Hello, that's very true, could be a wizard bargain; but at 75 one experiences a declining appetite for waiting to see!
I'm glad you think they look well enough, and of course handsome is as handsome does.
I must not work myself into being salesman and punter at once.
Cheers,

Well, plunge taken! Fairfield Garages came up with an 02 LX registered to them, but only 50 miles on the clock, for £1k off list.
So far I'm more than usually impressed; the thing is very smooth and quiet, even when it gets up on the cam over 4000 revs, when it lifts up its skirts and goes very well and is still pulling strongly at the rev limiter; or you can pull away from 1000 in fifth. Handling is pretty fair, but I have not pushed the Kumhos to the limit in the wet yet. Clutch and box are very managable. And the better half finds it most comfortable.
It, or she, is Magenta red and inevitably known as Maggie.
Usually at this stage I am in the reaction mode and wondering if I have made a mistake, but not this time.
So, well done indeed HJ, for sowing the seed.

The phrase "running in" doesn't mean that you "run it" into the ground you know!!

Nice buy Tomo. You don't hang around do you?! (Stop your into 5th at 1000 trick at once, until the V6 has settled into its stride!!!!). One of the possible criteria for whether a car is a good un is whether it is imported into the USA. Yours is (under a different name) and, very satisfyingly, the price translates as about the same. For some models they pay in usd what we pay in ukp. Which is a shame.
|
Its a shame you can't apply that rule for a Yank car imported into the UK - The Neon for instance...
