Hi
What are you changing it with? The factory battery is a gel / spiral one and if you are always doing good runs this is fine. However if you are doing a lot of short trips/school runs then the car can have trouble keeping the battery charged. In this case I would fit a lead acid battery, the dealer one that I fit is slightly longer so you have to cut the front of the battery tray to fit it. This is a well know fix for customers that only do short runs most dealers will know it as the Merc battery upgrade but we now fit a Chrysler one as it?s cheaper.

i changed it to a 57220 Alphaline Ah cap:72 from www.performancebatteries.co.uk and thank goodness no probs ( good price too...)- only issue i had was there is large lid on top about 8mm thick that gets in the way of the terminals so there was a bit of jiggling about to get it to fit. all in all a result so far! - until the next time it runs down. im not sure if this was is indeed acid lead.

Hi familyman65

Having read your post I ordered a battery from www.performcebatteries.co.uk . I used their "find a battery" template and entered "Chrysler Voyager, 2004, 2.8, deisel" but when I received the battery, the terminals were different from my existing battery. I checked the other batteries they had on offer and all the same with the power to the front. I intend to contact the suppliers tomorrow but meantime can you tell me please what is the terminal layout on your Voyager?

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi MerlinTec,
I'm having the same battery problem with my 06 2.8d. My dealer has refused to acknowledge the problem so I'm resorting to buying and fitting the "upgraded" battery myself. I was advised by another dealer of the Mercedes battery part number but its £150! Can you advise the part number of the upgraded Chrysler battery that you now fit please so I can get that instead.
I assume the new chrysler battery is lead acid and higher amp output right? Is it easy to fit or will I need to make modifications.

Thanks for your help

Hi
Will look it up tomorrow for you. but no it's a lower amp but it is lead acid so the alternator can charge it better for short runs. you will have to cut away the front of the battery tray to make it fit and put the bolts for the terminal in the other way.

Thanks Merlin.

So if it was your money would you go for the more powerful Merc battery or does the Chrysler one do the job well enough. Moving to a lower ampage battery seems like a bit of a risk given all the electrics on the car. All my wife does it short runs to the school etc.
I'm a complete novice when it comes to car maintenance so how easy are the adjustments and what tools would I need? Sorry dumb questions I know but I need to get this fixed otherwise I swear my wife will leave me if she gets stranded in a car park with the kids again! LOL. Thanks again

I think the merc one is also lower then the 800 amp gel one. I have fitted loads the acid upgrades and never had one come back.

Thanks Marlin - I'll go for the Chrysler one then. Would you mind confirming the part number when you have a moment please?

Thanks again for your help and advice (I wish you worked at my local dealership!!)

Thanks - I'll pick one up at the weekend. Apart from having to make some small adjustments is there anything else I need to worry about when changing the battery (for example will the alarm go off etc, do I need to reset anything?). or is it as simple as taking the old one off and putting the new one back on.
I've got the 06 2.8CRD Grand Voyager.

radio code is all you need to worry about.

Hi Merlin, I've got an opportunity to pick up an Exide Maxxim 900DC battery at a reasonable cost. The spec looks excellent, I'm just worried about the height of the battery.
The Mopar is 190 high but the Exide is 205. Is there enough clearance in a 2006 Grand Voyager 2.8D to fit the Exide?
Thanks mate,
Dave

I've got a 54 plate 2.8CRD Grand Voyager and the battery has just gone. I ordered a replacement and the battery that arrived was a good 10cm too long. I've taken the dimensions of the current (dead) battery and I cannot seem to find one on any website. It is a Mopar 48Ah battery. The smallest I've seen on a website is a length of about 275mm but I reckon that is still going to be too big?

HELP!!!!!!!!

Speak to a local factor that supplies batteries, you wont be their first customer with a GV and they should be able to advise.

is the mopar battery the one I posted above? all you need to do is cut the front lip off for the battery to fit. I have done loads.

Hi Merlin,

I followed your advice by buying a 05015420AB to replace the gel battery in my 06 Voyager 2.8d; but the electrics went completely dead when I switched the battery over. Put the gel battery in and the lights go on again! The new battery appears charged and I am sure that I have the polarity right, so I am clearly doing something stupid. Can you make any suggestions please?
