hello everyone, i have a problem with my vw golf 1.6, '99. it wont go into reverse gear, all other gears work fine but just the reverse gear. thank you for your help.

I am not familiar with Golf gearbox, but assuming you can get the lever into the reverse position and it doesn't feel as though its going in, linkage adjustment or damage would likely be the problem. I assume that its not crunching when you try to engage, if it is, it will be the clutch not disengaging properly

thank you,... yes it doesnt feel as though its goin in and there is no crunching sound. is it something that i can repair/replace myself?

As I say, I am not familiar with that particular gearbox but if you get someone to operate the gear lever while you follow the linkage back from the gearbox, you may be able to see something broken/detached/bent.
