Went to have a look at a motor the other day- after carrying out an HPI check it emerged that the vehicle was recorded as being category C write in 2001. The seller had purchased the car after then and genuinely seemed to be unaware of its history.
I was wondering if sellers had any obligation to notify prospective purchasers of whether or not a car has been written off or is it simply a case of buyer beware?

Assuming it's a private sale then it's caveat emptor I'm afraid. There are lots of different reasons a car may have been written off, but I think it'd just be better to find one you like that hasn't been rather than jump through loads of hoops to reassure yourself about one that has.
