Eurocar parts - any experiences ? - Focus1.8TDCi
Has anyone used them before and what are their prices like compared to motor factors? Just had a quick check for some 5w30 oil and its about £3 cheaper (£15.60 v £12.70) but you have to spend £50+ to get free delivery.

Friend has used them a few times. I've always found it a real pain trying to phone the Manchester branch. I tried to phone them when I needed a MAF but they did not pick up. Used LMF vauxhall who were exellent.

Have used them many times as well as GSF (German Swedish and French) as i've owned older MB's for many years.

Good suppliers of quality parts for most cars but obviously specialising in the European makes involved.

I don't know about their oils, but for batteries, brakes, service and suspension parts etc they are very competitive for good quality parts.

My own favourite is GSF's mainsite at Castle Bromwich just opposite the Jaguar factory, very helpful and good stock of parts.

I read some poor reviews about them from a quick google search, all of them negative. Quick delivery but false advertising on some parts (shown as quality brand but send inferior product). I reckon it may be hassle to get things returned/refunds if they send you the wrong/faulty part. My brother needs a power steering pump for his mini. Local mechanic can get it for £400, their price is £358.

it was slipped out that it might just be a burnt connecter on the mini power steering (to the brushes?)
might be worth seeing a local reconditioner if you have one and saving $200 possibly

I don't know. A mobile mechanic checked the fuses and something else and said it was the PAS pump. Took the pump to an ecu tester who also fixes these pumps. Their price was £215 to fix but was told it was unrepairable.

Funny how everybody calls them Europarts. Google comes up instantly with the correct name.

It's worth doing an item by item comparison with GSF, and allowing for postage. Some things are more, some less.
They have an irritating way of listing dozens of separate variations all in fact having the same part number, and then glossing over a significant variant and just sending the most common one and hoping that will do.

I must admit i try to use one of the branches when buying parts...but then that goes for any car part from anywhere really.

You can't beat taking the old part with you for precise pattern and you can also specify whether you want cheap rubbish part or more expensive OE quality part, not so easy on the phone.

Not wanting to be too pedantic, but it's Euro Car Parts :-)

I've used them a few times with good results.

I have always found them superb for VW/Audi bits.
We have a branch in Reading so I can pick up in person.

I haven't used GSF before, but a few years ago I think they got mauled by the media for being found to sell counterfeit parts packaged as the genuine article.

I've always had a good experience with the Stevenage branch of Euro Car Parts. Like all parts depts, it pays to build a friendly relationship with one of the staff.

Unlike GSF, Euro have always revealed the quality level in their product code numbers, a zero at the end indicating OEM quality. I think they've made this more explicit on their website now.

Their OEM prices are often not that much less than main-dealer prices, especially as you can often negotiate discount with the latter but will have difficulty getting discount out of Euro (or GSF), so it's always worth comparing. However, more than once have I walked out of Euro with a major component at half the price of the main dealer's identical -- yes, identical -- part. And I didn't hesitate in buying two non-OEM Nissens radiators (made in Denmark) from GSF at one third of the price of the dealer's part; they are both fine after four and three years' use respectively.

I have been using them for about 15 years, at which time there was one branch in Birmingham and one or two around London, and back then it was worth the long drive to avoid the BMW dealer. A while after that they did mail order - phew.

I order most things online now, as some of the prices are cheaper than the branch and the counter service in my branch is dire with just one person doing everything and all kinds of thickos queued up for parts for their clapped out old 'done-up' Bimmers and VWs.

I have always chosen the make of part, such as ATE brake discs or Hengst filters on their website (as there are usually several choices) and always received the right ones.

I bought the pas pump today from the nottingham branch, £273 plus the old unit. Local mechanic charged £70 for fitting. I was told that the old unit had its seal broken and oil had penetrated inside and damaged the circuit/electrics. BMW had quoted £600 for the part.

I've had dealings with them and have found that if they're cheaper than elsewhere for certain parts its because the parts are of questionable quality. Mk1 Punto rear shockers were £18 each from them compared to £30 from everywhere else, but both started leaking after 3 months. Shan't be bothering with them again. Rather pay a little bit more for quality parts from my local independent parts place.
