Skoda 1.6l TDI CR Engine - Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}
Anyone come across this engine? Not mentioned yet in HJ car by car guide, but latest brochure promises 62.8mpg combined consumption and even 49.6mpg urban when fitted to an Octavia Elegance. £35 VED as well. I thought a 1.4l TSI petrol was the way forward for economy but this new engine seems incredible.

I hadn't heard of it, though surely it must be a VW engine? I wonder if it will replace the 1.4 or 1.9 TDis? Any idea on power output?

If its true I just hope that they'll fit it across the board, Skoda seem to get left too many times with VAG's left-overs and it takes forever to get the new stuff..

105bhp according to the Skoda website, but they don't state torque.

Skoda 1.6l TDI CR Engine - Tornadorot
It's VAG's new common-rail diesel, superseding the old 1.4 TDI and 1.9 TDI. Available in 75, 90 and 105PS states of tune, so far.

I must be lucky- was handed a brochure by the local Skoda dealer yesterday.

Seems to have only a five speed gearbox- puzzling as I would expect a very high 6th gear to permit the big increases in claimed mpg. Power and torque seem to be the same as the current 1.9PD engine.

They've come a long way since the 68 BHP 1.9 TD in my T4 van. Mind you, VW claimed that was nevironmentally friendly when they brought it out. It probably was in its day - has a cat. Oh for a spare 105 BHP 1.6 TDI to replace it with. Wishful thinking . . .
