03 2.0D P 0149 Fault code - beemabiker
Any help gratefully appreciated.

I have been gifted an '03 Diesel Zafira with a colossal 176k mileage. However the engine has been swopped for a 50k mileage one. I have a P 0149 fault code diagnosed which doesn't seem to be the pump as it is functioning happily. I have been to 5 x garages/workshops from main Vauxhall dealers to diesel pump specialists who have all given advice most of which is put up with the car dropping into limp home mode as it isn't causing too much grievance. Most of the time the car runs OK but drops into this mode and revs up to 2,200 when it pauses briefly before clearing and going on up the scale. I have swopped the EGR valve and manifold with a 2nd hand one which has made no difference!!
Does anyone have any advice as the car and all ancilliaries function perfectly.

Thanks

Pete

p0149 is a pump fault code" injection timming control circuit malfunction" the actual start of injection value is out of range, normally means there is a fault within the pump ecu, not alot that you can do about it, these pumps usually start to fail about the 100k mark and are a horrendous price to replace/repair, carry on driving but at some stage the pump will pack up completely so find another pump at the right price while you have the time rather than trying to find one when you have no choice, Regards TB

Thanks. Your advice is in sync with others. I suppose I was just hoping that there might be another solution. I have been quoted £2k + for a new pump. Is it true that pumps are synchronised with the EMU and it's not just a question of finding another pump from a breakers?

our local diesel specialist charges £900 for a rebuild of your own unit, but that is with the pump removed, these are a straight swap no codeing etc, just make sure that you get the right one, there are several, you realy need the number from the pump its written on a sticker on the pump but is nigh immpossible to see unless with a mirror on a stick,Regards TB

Thanks for that. I have been told that it is not possible to re build but obviously you know a good specialist. I presume removal is from the underside of the car? WOuld you share the name of your contact?

Thanks again for your advice

NDES. Northants Diesel and Electrical services, thinking about it they are able to fix pump problems but unsure weather they can do anything with the ecu's but i would assume that they bench test them worth a phone call, and no they come out through the top/front
