Retrospective VED....whats the state of play? - gordonbennet
Another thread reminded me we haven't heard about future plans for the backdated/retrospective increased VED for high co2 group cars...those regd between 2001 and 2006.

I don't want to start another rights and wrongs row, but it's gone quiet about this recently.

Does anyone know if the years in question were permanently shelved for retrospective huge increases or was it just another temprary U turn from a panicking discredited government (term 'govt' used loosely) and still yet to be reinstated after the next election.

To ensure fair swiping at politicians, i haven't heard the other lot say too much about this either, and i wouldn't rust any one of 'em to tell me the time.

Those figures could change tomorrow if Gordon decides to throw an emergency budget. However, the likelihood is that should he get another term , we will be back to goal post moving and vehicles that are considered ' clean now at say 180, will suddenly become ' dirty " and will need to be punished with higher rates of VED.

In future, after having decided what model and variant of car I want, I'll set aside enough money to pay the VED and then see what age of car my remaining liquid assets will allow me to buy.

Thanks for the earlier link L'es..., if i read correctly those shelved huge rises for the highest band cars regd 'tween 01 and 06 resume in 2010...unless i'm wrong again.

It's the not knowing for sure that gets to me, can't make a judgement about buying without sure figures to work to.

I can budget for the VED meself, whats galling is that you must also budget for massive terminal depreciation as the VED costs become an increasing percentage of the remaining value of the car.

As an aside at various docks where we take British made cars for export there are a considerable number of UK regd cars waiting to be exported.
A probable likely future for many sound quality cars that would otherwise be worthless here. Much better than seeing those cars destroyed.
