Watched in horror, as my cars tracking was adjusted using two pairs of 'MoleGrips' ..... remember when people worked on your car with proper tools and took some pride in their work.
|
|
Nope..... when was that ?

the molegrips are to turn the steering arm, i think you should have looked closer, you will have seen spanners/sockets to tighten the appropriate nuts .

No just molegrips!

I remember a story years ago about the police stopping a motorist who was driving a car with no steering wheel but with a mole-grip attached to the steering column splines!!!

My Grandad drove round for more than a week or two in the 70's with one brake flexi that had burst doubled back and clamped off with a pair of molegrips.... mind you, it was a S1 diesel landrover, so you could prbably have got out and run faster than it! Molegrips are the best tool (well, after a decent pair of Stilsons!)

Been there, done that. Once had to recover a car from a multistory....Vauxhall, wheel used to break off during theft attempt. Couldn't get the transporter in so drove car down using mole as a tiller ! Worked fine.

did the same myself the other week with the mole grips,i actually took a picture with my phone but deleted it because the quality was poor, really weird driving with the mollies on though as you have nothing to lean on and nothing to pull yourself out of the car with when you get out

No just molegrips!
then dont drive the car, its unsafe.

BB, was that a Vauxie ? I seem to remember they had a snap off point to prevent theft.
I agree, very strange feeling to drive.....I remember feeling very exposed.
The owner was very impressed that I could get his car into the dealers so easily
Where there's a will...etc.

>>>>>>>>>> yes ted if you look at picture 2 ive fitted a complete new downshaft as the splines where the steering wheel fit can twist while the thieves are trying to break the lock
