Distance in kilometres, not in miles,
Exaggerates the size of New South Wiles,
While also (so one anxiously supposes)
Getting up snooty fluting Pommy noses.

But - lest the royalist rump should feel bereft -
Kind Aussies still keep driving on the left.

the signs are full of bullet holes
and cane toads pop up like wet moles
there is a squelch a gasp and pop
that`ll teach them there to hop

big reds jump up in the air
out the guns - Australia fair
whizz bang splat and whollop
fair game mate - it was a trollop

slither crawl spider fly
touch me your gonna die
Out now on the barrier reef
a barracuda admiring your gold filled teeth

There`s a shark now - passing by?
Touch and go - live or die
poison coral grips your hair
Australia fair

(turned down once for immigration)

Have you got these poems stored ready for deployment when a thread takes a particular turn ?

No PU. They just self generate in my mind and are spontaneous...

( maybe using the area previously assigned to reading Richard Jones - at last free from the Mental Heath Act)

Is that the same as passing wind?

Australia started going metric in 1966 with main roads metricified in 1973 i seem to remember. I think it took about 20 years for australia to go fully metric.

Red dust fills the southern air
It`s a passing wind - Australia fair
Here`s a road train that`s gone metric
Full of beef with wounds gone septic

Road signs shimmer in the heat
metric meanings travelers greet
road train thunders to a halt
in the bar - a glass of malt

nip out back to the dunny
clouds of flies - not so funny
buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz
get a grip - don`t make a fuss

Your alter ego`s over there
rocking in the broken chair
buy him a beer and lets be away
to open spaces - now, today

I think Oilrag and Lud have got their poetry and motoring forums in a tangle. :-)

I can't speak for oilrag ON, although I can't help admiring the volumetric generosity of his muse... But my own short effort did try to answer the OP's question.

While I provided a literary muse of psychological immersion in the subject -attempting to sustain the experience as a paradox of `quality` for those without in-vivo contact in the subject matter of Australasia, it`s fauna and societal mores.
;-)

(cough...seen it on the telly)
