I think the clue is in "I drive in drag races" Lud. So it may be road legal but only when using something like nitrous oxide does it go fast in a straight line.
What that quality paper is forgetting is the Bugatti was engineered to go fast in a straight line and keep going fast (until it runs out of fuel of course) and do it without fuss. The standard car will do 253mph but I think a version is available that does over 270mph.
Focus you beat me to it. I was going to post the same.
The Veyron took a long time to come to market due to the need for engineering. It can safely go at the speeds it can and stop as well. All in luxury. And it could go faster if it were not limited due to things like tyres, probably a bit of physics, etc.
If I had £60k to spend I'd not spend it on doing up a £50 Golf :-) Now if he took a £20k Golf and spent £40k that would be almost as stupid.
I highlighted the comment about only going in a straight line because it made me laugh, not trying to demean his efforts. We need more people like him :-)
BTW I think Fifth Gear featured a road legal drag racing Cortina or something (I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Cortina actually) that IIRC could do the 0-60 in 2 secs or under. Great fun at traffic lights.
