hi all,
1st time user here up in jockland. My problem is this, my xantia 1.9td rear suspension has stuck in the high possition! Bouncing me & everyone to the point of whiplash or car sickness which ever comes 1st, mind you the kids seem to get a giggle out of it! Beats paying for the shows! lol! The lever inside the the car is at normal position. What does a height corrector valve look like, are they cheap & are they easy to replace for someone with above average mechanical skills?
{W? Guessing that'll be 2000 then}

It may be that the linkage on the valve is just siezed up, or there is a plastic link broken/detached between the valve linkage and the manual selection linkage.
If you go to www.frenchcarforum.co.uk and do a citroen forum search for height correctors you will find chapter and verse on it.
For safety's sake be aware that Xantias are heavy and should be well supported before venturing underneath. (not trying to teach granny to suck eggs!)

As mjm says, most likely the valve linkage has seized and the link to the roll bar is broken / popped off. It's a small plastic jobbie, and if you look underneath from in front off the OS rear wheel you may well see it hanging down. The HC is near the front of the rear subframe, just slightly to the OS of the car - it's a cylinder about the size of small bean tin with rubber covers on the ends. Chances are if the mech is so seized it has popped the link off, it needs to be replaced. New one is about a ton from GSF. Fitting not too difficult, provided the pipes are not totally rusted in. Only trouble is, you need to reset the height afterwards, which is best done on a proper lift, but can be done on ramps, just needs a bit of trial and error. Note carefully the postion of the pipes - it's easy to get the feed and return the wrong way round..... You'll need to depressure the regulator (on the front of the gear box) - undo the 12mm bolt on the front a couple of turns (don't take it out!).

hi richard,
Thanks for the muchness quickness of your response, with what you say about the rusty pipes & the bleeding & resetting, i've got a mate who owns a garage with a lift, probably best too let him have alook. While we're here the hyd pmup has a tiny leak, doe these have gaskets that could leak & can i pick one up from the scrappy?

If its just the plastic link thats broken, once you have it in the air, quite an easy job, squirt some oil on the linkage while your there, they can stick.
