I know brand new cars can be taxed for 12 months + 1 week, but can they be taxed for 12 months + 2 or 3 weeks?
|
|
I think you will lose a few weeks tax on the car. In the overall picture it's not going to be a huge sum though is it.
|
I am pretty sure it can be taxed for +2 or 3 weeks. It certainly used to be possible when I worked for a dealership, albeit 10 years ago.
Hope that helps.

When I bought a new car in 2005, on the 31st August (to get the best possible deal), this was certainly done.

I can see some merits of purchasing on 28 February/31 August... ...but, aren't you supposed to walk in waving your 'wad' on the final few days of March, June, Sept & Dec to get the best possible deal(s)?

Normally yes Rickyboy, but this damn scrappage scheme has thrown everything out of kilter.

hi
from dvla website
When to apply
If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.
If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you?ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.
If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.

Why not get the garage to deliver the car unregistered (they can deliver on trade plates). Stick the car on your driveway until the start of March or September then register it.
|
|
Or get a life (in a nice way) - £10 here or there is utterly inconsequential in the cost of buying a new car!
|
|
Gordon B will be thanking you most profusely for helping out the British economy to the tune of £10 or so - well done sir that's just the sort of thing we need to get us out this mess!

Thanks for those who chose to answer the question.
To those who replied with wise cracks, may the car in front be a mimser.....with a caravan....
