Have been shopping today for a new car with SWMBO and we have got it down to two cars, the new fiesta 1.4 tdci style + or, a new hyundai i20 1.4 crdi comfort. The ford is an ex demo with 5000 on the clock and the hyundai would be a brand new 59 plate car. What are you guys opinions on the two models and which would you got for if you had the choice. It is so close to call it is impossible the decide. Bothe willcost the same amount but obviously the ford we could collect tomorrow instead of waiting three months. TIA

Difficult decision James as both have their merits, I'd say the Hyundai will come out slightly cheaper to run over several years but trade in value of the Ford will be higher until around 7 years (when it won't make a jot either way).
I'd personally have the Fiesta as I fit in it where I don't in the i20, only turn offs for me were the room in the back being rather poor and I'm not a fan of the mobile inspired radio buttons. Don't think you can go wrong with either really, so enjoy.

Make sure that you can both live with the poor rear visibility if you choose the Fiesta. It may look good but I wouldn't have one myself for that reason alone. There could be a child in that blind spot one day when you're reversing.

Heart or head, if heart then whichever makes you happy.
If you are really content with either one, then factor in your ownership duration and mileage, the Hyundai's 5 year unlimited miles warranty may make all the difference if you are a long term higher mileage owner.
I daresay the Ford will be a better trade in at 3 though.

It depends what your paying for each and it also depends how long you intend to keep the car as the Ford warranty is that much shorter. For a three year stint, id choose the Ford, even if its not a very practical car really given its size. Its just a bit nice!

Just reread the OP.
They're both diesels but the Ford is a Demo with 5K miles.
That would rule it out for me, many drivers will have put fuel in this car, the danger of misfuelling would be a risk too far.
I know i'm paranoid over this, but it's a common mistake with people who are strangers to diesel cars, eg. hire cars.

Thanks for the replies guys i was edging tward the fiesta for the reason mentioned above but she was heading toward the hyundai. As she will be driving it we may be getting the hyundai. She does approx 22000 miles a year ATM.

Mazda2?
On the misfuelling point, our Focus makes this pretty much impossible - is it not the same with the Fiesta?

Had a quick look elsewhere on this estimable site - seems the Fiesta has Easyfuel system - so misfuelling seems unlikely to be a significant risk.

James
We picked up a new i20 1.2 Classic for SWMBO a week ago under the scrappage scheme. There is a thread somewhere with our initial experiences. So far, we have been very impressed with the car - but I can't say I would want to do 22k miles pa in it, or indeed in a Fiesta, which we had previously tested.
Although I would probably have preferred the Fiesta (more stylish), my wife preferred the i20. Like for like, it's also about £2k cheaper. Even the base model we have is well specc'd - air con, 6 airbags etc....
One word of caution. I assume that, as you have an ex-demo Fiesta on your list, you don't qualify for scrappage. The i10 and i20 are very popular under the scrappage scheme, and, when we picked up ours, the salesman said they are now taking orders for October delivery. Not sure if that applies to both i10s and i20s, though. Assuming you're going with a factory order, you may want to check with the salesman exactly how long it will be!
