1995 2.6 Cabriolet Roof Will Not Open - Elle
Hi, any advice would be very much appreciated: our 95 cabriolet's manual roof will not open at all. We turn the handle but it will not shift the roof, not even half an inch. Have tried WD40 and have checked all the fuses but no joy. Have contacted numerous garages for repair who do not seem to want to know about problems with soft tops.

We would like to sell it but can't imagine anyone will want it in its current state. Only other (expensive) option is to buy a new car and use scrappage scheme, although that seems a shame as the car has only done 60,000 miles!

Any ideas of what could be wong with the roof?

Thank you!

Hi again, can anyone help? Problem still not fixed. Thanks!

I will break the 12 day silence with what I hope may be a helpful comment. Years ago somebody told me that farm machinery repairers may have a clue as they are used to dealing with 'things' that are a mixture of hydraulics, mechanics and microswitches. No help if you live within the M25 but if you are somewhere rural it might be worth asking around. Hope this helps.

Thank you Armitage - unfortunately, I live near the centre of London so do not know of any farms! Interesting reply though and one that makes a lot of sense. Thank you again for responding.

Even so, you might be able to deliver the car in rural UK! Not knowing where you are in London I used yell.com for Colchester and found this

You could always do the same for your nearest rural town/city and speak on the phone.
Don't scrap it - use it as or sell it as a saloon!

Thanks again Armitage, very helpful. Wont harm to give them a call. Selling it, as it is, is also an idea - I had thought of this but assumed nobody would be interested in buying a convertible without a working roof. I think it would be worth around £2000 - with a working roof. Does anyone know roughly how much I could sell it for as it is, or is it unlikely to generate interest. Thank you!

Have you tried an Audi forum? A quick search reveals

It would be a shame to scrap it.
Good Luck.
