I called {windscreen repair company} to arrange a chip (garden pea in size with two several small cracks either side). They explained that the engineer would come out and assess it chip and advise if a repair or replacement was necessary.
When he arrived he took one look and said that needs replacing (£60 excess) OK I said no problem. But he advised to wait until MOT time which he said call us and get it sorted then? Seems a bit strange to pass up on £60 earner now than in 10 months time. He did say as it is lower than the vents and on passenger side it wouldn't crack, it has put my mind at ease. It was like he didn't want to do the work. Should I ring up and demand it done or just wait and get done before MOT?
Just asking really as I found it very strange.

probably a real pain to get the screen out on these
or its difficult to locate a screen
a pea is a bullseye so quite big
it will spread seeing as its already started plus you get the damp in
maybe he retires in 6 months

I'd get it done now, if you're going to pay £60 you may as well benefit from it sooner, a new windscreen is so nice on an older car, especially in the sun, as you lose the sugar sprinkle effect of thousands of tiny chips.
What's more, many insurers are increasing the screen excess to £75.
Try phoning the Autoglass main number and visit the depot. I never like the idea of them coming to you, it is a compromise of convenience against quality in my opinion.

I would probably wait.
laminated screens very rarely (if ever) totally give way,and if all the damage is on the ns it shouldnt affect vision very much.
I would need to see it before deciding, and check availablity, but what if a stone hits your nice new screen?
another £60 - £75 before your MOT.
I do agree theres nothing like a new screen to look through though........

From past experience I suggest that you have either a genuine screen fitted, or at least one made by the same manufacturer. In the case of the latter the only difference would be the absence of the car manufacturer's identification numbers/letters. If the repair company you have chosen fits pattern parts then go elsewhere. Whoever you choose the cost to you will be the same, i.e. your insurance excess.
