00 2.0 Motorised Cabriolet Roof - Golfauto
Hello there, I have just started to have trouble with the above. On lowering the roof, the motor makes a real struggling sound to start with and even more recently, I have noticed it is opening and closing much more slowly than usual. Is this the motor that is burning out or could there be some other problem? Is there anywhere in the York area (other than a VW dealer) that could advise. Thanks!!

The first item to check is the level of hydraulic fluid in the pump reservoir.Open the boot and pull back the trim panel on the left side. You should see the plastic reservoir with a min-max mark on it.If it is low ,then it will need a top up with the correct oil.hth

Many thanks!! Will have a try at that.

Hello again, you are absolutely spot on, it is the fluid, it is just below the minimun level. Sorry to drive you mad but have you any idea how to top it up?? There is a nut on top of the metal unit that the reservoir is attached to. Would you know if on removing that nut the filler hole might be underneath it?? Thanks again!!

Yes,it is usually a brass coloured nut, approx 13mm across.Take this out and use a very small funnel and fill to level very slowly.Get the correct oil.I,m not sure if Vw sell it in small quantities.hth

Yes, the nut is brass coloured. I phoned my local VW dealer this afternoon and the parts department have it in stock so I presume it can't be in vast quantity containers. It seems it is the same fluid as the power steering but I shall check that all out when I go down there. Many thanks!!

Just a quick email to thank you for such a quick and accurate diagnosis of my motorised roof problem. It appears after following your instructions, it is functioning as normal again and hopefully, will carry on doing so in order that I might escape an expensive repair??
