Have a mondeo coil light came on with loss of power has happened a few times cylinder 2 knocking above threshold .....think it needs to be re programmed took it to a garage so they could have a quick look (not a ford garage).....now this is where i need help
he..the mechanic sat in the car and spent 5 mins reving and redlining the engine..before telling me yes injector problem

Removed injector 2 and injector 1 cleaned them with a rag and then put them in the opposite cylinders ie injector 2 into cylinder 1 and the same with the other one never reprogrammed them and said knocking unit/sensor was needed

Went away then came back and drove the car to ford garage about mile and half away (it struggled to start and was 50 times worse than when i drove it in ,told them what had happened so they changed the injectors back into the correct cylinders and reprogrammed the injectors but the car would not start 3 days later they removed all 4 injectors andtested them to find out that all 4 injectors were now extremly pink fluffy dice please let me no who is at fault here and explain to me why please as i dont know what to do ..............arrgh

Whilst the poor diagnostic techniques of the first mechanic haven't helped, they certainly haven't damaged all four injectors.

If they've now been tested and found be to knackered then a good diesel specialist should be able to sort it for around £900.

May be the HP pump is tired & fragmenting causing debris in the injectors. I would visit a diesel specialist for valid advice & recommendations otherwise it may end up a bottomless pit!
The first garage should of recoded the injectors when moving them so obvioulsy doesn't have a clue.
The first garage would not of increased your problems other than the poor running & starting due to the coding issue.
Mondeo's can be a blighter when recoding injectors as the ECM need to relearn.

The question was asked at the end of the OP "Who is to blame?"

Although this is of no help to the problem, the answer might be instructive.

Delphi.

As a Ford subsidiary, cost is King and in their wisdom, Delphi have graded rather than matched injectors. The ECU software contains no adaptation to equalise fuelling shots and consequently has to be pre-programmed with the delivery values for each injector fitted (which is why they are marked). For some reason, these values seem to get "lost" occasionally and the default fuelling results in tractor-like running.

By way of a contrast, the Bosch PD injectors are fully interchangeable by part number and the ECU measures engine acceleration following firing and adapts the fuelling to suit. You can check the individual fuel deliveries using VAGCOM and it's quite instructive to see how well matched a set of Bosch injectors generally are, even after a considerable mileage. The capability for delivery adaptation means that the engines will run well into high mileages and the fuel system generally outlasts the engine.

tiberius, i hear you brother. the exact same thing has happened to me. drove my car to the garage and was towed back. i needed one injector paid £250,only to find out i need another 3. then i was informed even with three new injectors fitted, my ecu might not be functioning properly.
i have found a spare mondeo with the parts i need, although im not too sure if they can just be stuck in. wheres's best to go for this? ford garage? my local garage has the latest bosch kit. can this to the job?
