Motoring link: The 64-year-old also hopes to pay for a set of custom-made vehicles to take cancer patients to and from hospitals.
{A somewhat tenuious motoring link. If it strays off the main road and heads down a rough country lane, this thread will be locked - DD}

It seems HJ's committed to removing vaguely titled threads - can you edit the title?

Before passing away last year, a businessman in Bedford funded a set of 3 or 4 (IIRC) Vauxhall Zafiras for Bedford hospital to transport patients requiring daily chemotherapy to and from Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. They are all emblazoned with his company logo and their purpose is to ease the stress of patients who may have to make the same journey every day for several weeks.

That's very charitable of the guy in Bedford, but the one in the link has put his entire estate for sale and will be giving it ALL to charity! That's true altruism.
He says that he and his wife will live off his no doubt sizeable pension, but even so, I wouldn't do what he's doing!

DD, I know the life of a Mod isnt easy, (I am one in another life, as well as an owner of my own forums)
But have you tried getting to and from hospitals lately?
inadequate parking, expensive parking, public transport? not user friendly for patients, or family who are worried about their loved ones.....
people parking on sideroads near hospitals....
What Im trying to say is, anything that aims to make the trip to hospital easier (even for only a few) will help the rest of the road users in general, surely that makes it a valid thread?

Setting aside the emotional trauma of a seriously ill loved one, the logistical and financial problems involved are often a nightmare. The access to transport can make a huge difference to the wellbeing of all involved.

Yes. Last Monday as a matter of fact. I got someone to drive me there so I wouldn't miss my appointment by having to wait around for a parking space.
surely that makes it a valid thread?
I didn't say that it wasn't. It was a request to keep the discussion motoring related and not to wander off the beaten track. Some people are tending to forget that this is motoring website, not a free for all discussion. That, by the way is a general statement, not a dig at anyone in particular.

To get it back on a motoring scenario- I drove to Doxford Hall for an Easter weekend break.The roads are very scenic and quiet (A1 excepted).
After one night we were ready to depart and only stayed two nights, moving to Caister. More like an expensive function suite than a welcoming hotel. Probably just us. Yes, we have commented to the owner and the booking website.
Glad the owners wife has made a recovery and we hope to be back in the area for a weekend break.
