Sat Nav Lane Guidance - Anybody used it?? - vxr53
I'm considering buying a new sat nav unit and wonder if its worth the extra premium to have the lane guidance feature?? Does anybody have any experience of using this feature??

Thanks

I have this feature on my Tomtom 720. I find it useful on motorways, (the only roads it works on), to give 1/2 mile notice of the correct lane in areas I am not familiar with. It is really only of use on complex, unknown junctions and interchanges. I find it really useful around the Manchester area motorways, which I do not know well. If you use motorways you know well, probably not worth it.

If it is the Snooper version - stay away, their road mapping software is not as accurate as Snooper claim. Nor is the speed/safety camera locating side of things - useless in SPECS - even if you do an update on the day of your travel - Snooper do not always provide accurate updates of new road works with SPECS or other safety camera locations within them.

I have the Snooper Syrius S2000 Proline - damned thing is at times next to totally useless even with the latest map & camera updates. It failed so many times in Cornwall last week to see junctions etc., correctly.

It fails see junctions that have been present for decades, it tells you to make left or right turns when it should be a 'follow the road to the R or L, it ignores roundabouts and especially mini ones, that again have again been there for years - the list is endless.

Same with the Traffic alert system that it comes with [sic] no reception area = no TMC.

The touch screen is not as sensitive as it should be too.

I have many times reverted back to the installed Satnav in my Vauxhall. Even with 2007/8 mapping details - it see's what the modern Snooper with 2008/9 latest road mapping details fails to.

I've got it on our TomTom 520 and it's handy, makes it a lot easier to glance and see which lane one should be in at a complex junction. Also had a Nissan X-Trail with a similar feature and it was equally useful in that.

Have had to use a TomTom ONE this past couple of weeks on hols and this doesn't have the feature-must say it's the one thing I missed from our unit.

If it's not much more £££ then I'd definitely go for it. I _understand_ that the feature is being retro software updated to the ONE and XL TomToms, but pocketgps.co.uk will give you more info on that
