I agree with Blue: I think the same applies to a lot of people. There are lots of 'hidden' profiles which I think is a pity.
I appreciate that some won't want to reveal their name or E-mail address (though I've no objection myself and they're on my profile) - but it would be interesting to know a few non-confidential things about fellow-Backroomers, especially what car they drive and perhaps what part of the country they live in.

To participate in a genuine way, you make a genuine contribution. I think the BR knows the nature of all X-posts.
Amusing in a bullish way yes, but genuine enthusiast, seems unlikely, especially when cornered on what they drive, basic info that could in no way identify themselves personally, still refuse. Says alot more than giving a straight answer really.

It would be nice if Mr X at least gave us some clue that he was not a troll though. What ever we all think of Mr X we still reply to his posts so he is still a genuine contributor in that sense.

When one looks at the number of threads and posts on this board which relate incidents and examples of plods spite and pettiness, is it any wonder that some of us would rather not give them the simple , tiny bits of info that enable them to build a bigger picture ?
A car make or colour here, a mention of an area there. An inkling of what you did last Friday or where you went yesterday morning, all tucked away until there are enough pieces to see the full picture.
And it's not just plod. I've taken a few direct hits on here , enough to make me realise that some posters are clearly not the full tax disc.
As Pologirl put it ... get a life .

I am not sure, I mean people on here know what car I drive, they know roughly where I live (two members actually know my exact address) but I have nothing to hide so if the police want to read my posts on how highly maintained I try and keep my car they are very welcome to.
I do keep a lot of details to myself but I have no problem with members knowing I live in Manchester and drive a Corsa why should I? Well thats 2.6 million people, I wonder how many Arden Blue Corsas are in Manchester? Tens of thousands probably!
As ever on a public forum if you have something to hide then hide it.
|
But have you been the victim of the sort of snide remarks, posted by plod on here, that I have ?
One day rattle, you will mention that such and such a thing happened on car park X or outside store Y in Manchester, Another time you might mention something that happened in a more precise area. Bit by bit, a profile could be built . Let me assure you, you could be traced.

Despite this thread, which is I suspect more about the troll issue but coming at it sideways, its fair to say that, and Im quite confident saying this - nobody is THAT interested in you that they would go any great lengths to put any pieces together as the 'full picture' is likely to be as dull as your posts are pointy.
Unless of course you have something to hide... in which case its quite understandable you are so worried about being identified. Could even be famous :-) aside from here of course!

Ok, can we move on from this witching hunt please.
Mr X does not wish to disclose the answers to the questions posted in this thread. That is his right if he so wishes.
I think I know the answer to what car he drives, it took me all but a few seconds using the forum search. I'm very surprised jbif didn't find or disclose it. No, jbif, I'm not laying down a challenge for you to post it elsewhere - nor anyone else either for that matter.
Like Marmite, you'll probably either like or hate Mr X.
If you find his posts slightly controversial or erring toward trolling, then simply ignore them. It's really quite straight forward. But please spare a moment to think of us poor moderators who don't have the luxury of ignoring them ;o)
Thank you - DD.
