Road speed colour coding and traffic speed control - oilfilter
Came across a paper by a French Traffic engineer titled :

Road speed colour coding and traffic speed control : an applied psychology approach ( ISSN 0041-0683 CODEN TENCA4 ).

Interesting points about the speed and ability to process information presented as numbers on a sign compared to the speed represented by a colored light/sign etc'

Sound like a good simple idea to me.

With so many illogical speed limits, street light indicated limits, signs missing, or hidden by shrubery and trees, I think we should sort out the mess we already have before confusing the issue further.
