As I hadn't yet received new paperwork I e-mailed my present insurer earlier today seeking the figure of the renewal premium (due 01/10). In my signing-off paragraph I included the footnote "in case I need to shop around"...
Lo and behold ? this idle threat appears to have generated me a grand saving of 63p for the next 12 months!
Needless to say ? I'll be ?shopping around?...

With premiums going up 10%+ per annum a reduction of anything looks like a good deal. Please us know if you manage to get a lower quote by shopping around and good luck!

You could do worse than try www.zippyquote.co.uk. Also try "Car Insurance" in www.google.co.uk.
ZippyQuote found me a quote for £330 from Its4Me. Oddly enough I went through another site and the cheapest quote was for ~£500 and was from Its4Me. Same details. Odd. I was worried I had given false information so I triple checked.
My understanding is that different insurers and brokers specialise in different areas so as to minimise the work required to research the risks. This means that one might be very good for young people but very poor for oldies. Hence the wide variation in quotes.
One good thing about online quotes is that if you do not purchase that day, they often ring you with a much better quote.

My insurance has gone down from £1420 to £1122. Hopefully on renewal in the near future this will stay around the same figure.
Cars are parked on the street in London and are R reg Golf III 1.6 and X reg BMW 530dT - both fully comp.
Can't really complain especially as car crime is so high in the city.

I've just renewed with www.esure.co.uk , they beat most other quotes by at least £100 (paying £330 now) - the only other insurer to come close was Direct Line.
