I tried it earlier when someone posted it the other day. Did a 21 second first lap, then kept crashing. As with slot cars, you can learn a circuit if you practise for long enough to learn the rhythm. But life's too short for a tremulous drooling old codger to go in for that sort of thing.
Come to think of it I have a friend, an American who lives in Paris, who is a slot car ace and goes to tournaments all over the place (Britain included). They even have Classic Slot Car meetings. There's quite a lot to it, but it can't compare with the real thing.

best lap 24 seconds, and then i just kept flying of the corners all the time
Its very clever though how you get "picked back up" by one of the enginners
