Does anyone know when this will actually see the light of day or more importantly when will it appear in UK showrooms? A trawl of the internet does not really help. Also, where will this sit in the Alfa range, is there a model due that will fit between this and the MiTo?
It seems the 147 replacement may not be called the 149 but have a name in the same vein as the MiTo.

The "149" will fit above the MiTo and below the new 159. It will be a 5 door hatch only and not available in 3 door (apparantly). I believe it will be called the Milano and the 159 replacement the Giulia. Try a search for the new Alfa Milano that might find something.
As far as when it will become available, its due to be launched late 2009 AFAIK (and probably a good 3-6 months later for the UK), though in these economic climes that could well be delayed.
The large time gap between the 147 and its replacement is allegedly down to Sergio Marchionne, who on seeing the 147 replacement when he started his job told them to start again as it wasn't special enough.

Thanks for the info PR(P). Do you know if a 5 door MiTo is planned?

No worries. I haven't heard anything about a 5 door MiTo but I would doubt it very much.

Bit of an update: It was announced last week that Fiat are moving production of the new 147 - the Milano away from the Pomigliano factory to the nearby one at Cassino. It will be built alongside the Bravo and Lancia Delta. I think this is good news as the factory at Pomigliano has had problems in the past. Prodcution to start in 2010 (though no mention of when in 2010)

The engine line up has been announced...
Petrol
1.4TBi Multiair (135 and 165BHP)
1.8TBi (235BHP)
Diesel
1.6MJ (120BHP)
2.0MJ (170BHP)
2.0MJ Twin turbo (220BHP)
The 2.0MJ twin turbo sounds a very interesting proposition.
Interestingly the article claims production will start late 2009 and it will debut at Geneva early next year.
