I am considering buying a rover 220 coupe, preferably the turbo.
I have heard mixed reports about these motors, namely poor handling and "soft" engines.
Advice please

I had one of these (non turbo) two years ago and I have to say it was fairly appaling.
Not very reliable, loads of detached trim, lights behind instrumentation and heater controls blew with alarming regularity, other electrical problems, alarm problems, heavy tyre wear, rust.
I can only imagine the added technical problems that a turbo would bring. K series engines are a bit leaky without it anyway.
Good things, looked alright for the time and was fairly brisk. Not fast though.
I was glad to get shot, and lost loads of money on the deal.
Get a Civic 1.8 VTI instead.
If you need anymore info then email me direct.

I've got a 414i, a mate has a 218 VVC coupe. (No turbo)
Weak areas are:
1) Multifunction Unit very dodgy. Controls interior light; Lights on warning, intermittent wipe rear window de-mister.
2) Rear trailing arm bushes split and wear.
3) The threads on the engine mount strip and require helicoiling when the cam belt is replaced.
4) Some cooling hassles but I?ve never had them.
5) I've found spark plugs rust in due to reactions between alloy then thread strips as they are removed.
Mate complains about the handling but he loved it when he got it. Targa top isn't very good. Not much bigger than a sun roof. He *didn't* get the turbo because they have a reputation for being a bit tender.
All in all this car will be a lot cheaper than anything comparable and will be v. fast.
He and I are both happy with ours.
You pays your money and you takes your choice...

Never seen so many at auction, at once, as I did at BCA Measham!
This was about 8 months ago & sold by Bass the brewery. There was about 12-15 of them, run as a fleet car maybe a reasonable bet.Give auction a call for next Bass sale.
