4 seat, 5 door, 80mph, 200 mile range (100 at 80mph), and:

"Each Bee.One will be permanently hooked up to a 3G cellular network that will allow updates to the car's management system software to be downloaded, and performance and usage data to be sent in the other direction."

Also:

"Alongside the One, the company is also working on a two-seat roadster called the Bee.Four that should be able to hit 60mph in under three seconds, and a 'leccy F1-style hill climb racer that will run under the famous BRM badge. The BRM Bee Four ERV will use four in-wheel electric motors developed at Oxford University to generate 520kW (700bhp) and will have a top speed of 250mph."

Those pictures look like they have been made in 3D studio max in a lunch break. You would think before putting out a press release they would at least show working models.

Also with 100 mile range at 80 miles an hour this translates to 60 miles range once the batteries get a bit worn so it dosn't really solve any problem. I believe fuel cells are the answer and all this obsession with electric cars is a bit dated.

What we need is cheap save electric transport with a max speed of 40mph which sole purpose is suburban use. It all goes wrong when they try and market an electric car is a proper car.

Oh and where does the electricity come from? I have visions of lots of Drax clones all churining out smoke from burnt coal just to power these cars.

There are people in the USA who converted ordinary VW Passats or Jettas using some motors and batteries and it worked fine and cost a few cents a day to run. There was a writeup somewhere. Much more sensible to give an old car a new lease of life with off-the-shelf parts.

If a 94 year old can make an allegedly usable electric car with a 65mph+ top speed and range of 30+ miles out of a 1987 Jetta, you would have thought that you'd see more than just the odd Prius on the roads by now.

BTW what's a 'peel out'? Wheel-spin start?
