"The study also said further work should be carried out to identify whether short term improvements could be delivered to provide a smoother flow of traffic at the existing crossing."
How much will this study cost?
Is it too blindingly obvious in this green era that you donate the toll boths to a charity and scrap the toll charges thus saving the earth by emitting less what ever it is as you slow down and speed up again. Boris are you listening ? You are sorting the traffic lights out so please deal with this too.

You know what henry?
i totally agree with you

Things to bear in mind:
1) Lord Adonis has just been round the country by train and so is probably not at all well.
2) The government are currently running at a new initiative every three-quarters of an hour on the basis that each initiative might garner half a dozen votes.
3) Unless London has grown this afternoon, I don't think the Thames crossing is part of Boris's remit.
And on motoring: if you take away the booths I think you'd make congestion into the tunnel worse.
Evening all.

yes the tunnel congestion problem is also sensible, maybe they would let me come back through central london at no aditional charge then like in the old days?
|
BB, you can.
Vauxhall Bridge - Victoria - Park Lane - Edgeware road.
Doesn't go through the charging zone.
|
|
i wouldnt get past Edgeware road though as i would spend all day looking in lasky"s windows

When the booths (and tolls) were removed from the Forth Road Bridge the traffic flow dramatically improved.

Darn. I thought this thread was going to be about the Thames crossing so desperately needed near Reading, at the end of the A3290/A329M. No doubt they need another one in Kent/Essex but we've been needing this one since the 1960s and the nimbys of South Oxfordshire won't have it. Surely it's our turn for a bit of investment? If only they'd finished off the M31 project.

>>...but we've been needing this one since the 1960s and the nimbys.....

There have been arguments for years about a proper replacement for Walton ( Surrey) Thames bridge. There is a "temporary" bridge along side the tatty old bridge and lots of designs. IIRC the main concern is about restricting HGV using a new improved structure and so we carry on waiting.
This is not about a totally new bridge location so I wish you luck in Reading.

>>... There is a "temporary" bridge along side the tatty old bridge >>
I fact, Henry k the 'tatty old bridge' is another temporary bridge which was erected more than 50, yes, 50 years ago, while the authorities decided what to do.
What was that about organising a drinks party in a wine bar?

Why can't we have the one in Thamesmead that was first proposed in the '60s and twice since? It would mean missing Greenwich and Blackheath completely. There is even some groundwork already in place!

Because the longest ever public enquiry into a single road scheme decided against it on environmental grounds.
