Is the AA PC or not ? - hillman
I received a letter from the AA in reply to my query. On the flap of the envelope is the invitation : "If you would like this information in an appropriate alternative format, Braille or cassette, please call us on 0800 26 20 50".

Any comments ?

Its not PC, its the law relating to disabled people and making life easier for them.

I have no problems with it...

I do have a problem with their promise to prioritise broken down females above broken down males

Surely someone could have a pop at them under sex discrim legislation?

Who is cheapest these days for any driver single car cover ? any recommendations?

Women have the burden of being child-bearers, most men never go anything like urinating a golf ball, yet make out they're hard. So I have no problem with men extending extra courtesy to the woman. What's more it is good old fashioned British manners.

I can see you're in touch with your feminine side, hamsafar, but your expression of the idea somehow lacks something essentially feminine: child birth can be a pleasurable experience, I'm told.

But you do make a good point: anyone who can get a golf ball down his, ahem, deserves prioritisation. And is welcome to it.

Deserves more than prioritisation...deserves a place in the Natural History Museum

Many years ago, in Lincoln, there was a van which had on it the words "A blind man drives this van. Venetian blinds, roller blinds ............"

There was a recent report of a job advert for air traffic controllers. A necessary requirement was perfect eyesight and good English. The application form was available in braile and a dozen different languages.

Yes. Does it matter whether it is or not? The country has gone "PC" mad. I just wish that common sense would once more prevail, and that "PC" would be put into the rubbish bin of history.

You can't say "rubbish" it may be upsetting to unusable items. :-)

If I didn't know better, one could suspect the OP at having a pop at drivers with vision problems - remember that the person taking out the AA policy may not be the ones driving. Its not Political correctness gone mad its a simple courtesy to people with disabilities. Disability is the only minority group that we all might be within a hairsbreadth of being a member of.

If you can't see, how can you read the invitation on the envelope?

Does political correctness cause positive discrimination ?

I think we need to diferentiate between PC and what is required to help those less well off (in a physical sense) to have a decent life. Since I've had to push my wife around in a wheelchair I've realised just how bad access can be for those not as mobile as I, and whilst its regretable that the Gov has had to enforce by law for businesses to provide for disabled people, I can see that without those laws things would not have changed anywhere near as quickly, if at all. It does create some anomilies (our Drivers rest room has a dsiabled toilet, though a disabled person couldn't drive a train for instance), but on the whole its been a good thing.

But then again I don't regard any of the Laws relating to provision of facilities for disabled as PC. Back to the OP, it is quite possible that the person paying for the AA membership is blind and someone else drives the car for them, in which case braile would be appropriate (and I know of a case where this has happened).

I'll go back to my original point, I don't regard what the AA has done in the OP as PC.
