Sorry guys - more Omega stuff! Since I've had my 2000 (old model)2.5 CDX Estate there has been an annoying rattle in the back. It sounds as though it could be the spare wheel, but I've removed that and other stuff like the jack, load area cover, mother in law etc, but the rattle's still there. The boot door seems to close tightly so it's not that. Anyone else experienced this? Could it be exhaust, suspension .....?

On ours it was the tracks that the rear load space cover ran in which were rattling.
Removing the cover actually made the runners rattle more.

Thanks, although from the drivers seat it sounds as though it's lower down than the load cover slides. Perhaps I should ask SWMBO to drive me around while I sit in the boot.

Don't do this when Plod is around - they seem to take a dim view of such practises.
However, a touchy-feely with the fingers can highlight the area which is rattling, and a large lump of bluetac (prestic?) can be used to silence the rattle while you hunt for the next one!
then, when you get back, you can use special sound deadening pads, or like me, double-sided mirror tape, to cure the problem.

Handbrake cable maybe? Drive down road and pull handbrake on one click to take up slack in cable and see if it still does it. 2 of my previous Cavaliers had this problem where it used to rattle between the underside of the fuel tank and suspension arm. Cured by taping foam rubber around contact points.

Mine's got a rattle that emanates from a loose baffle in the exhaust - noticeable when cold.
Also, endless rattle from the passenger seat whenever SWMBO is in the car.

After searching for 2 years, identified as relating to the rear seat back retaining mechanism. Went away when seat was used.

Are all these posts related to Estate cars? Mine is a '98 saloon and does the same thing! I've tied the spare wheel down really tight and had the rear subframe mountings changed - no difference. My local garage had it up on a ramp and the mechanic & I had a good poke about underneath - nothing obvious. He said he'd seen a loose fuel tank do this - but mine was sound!
Its mainly rough road surfaces at slower speeds that makes mine do it, 20/30 max - above that it seems better/ok.
Grrrr
Regards ........ Robert
