1993 2.0 Cracked front subframe - TimOrridge
I was underneath today attending to a slipped off CV boot and I noticed whilst under there that the front subframe has cracked in half and another part id proper flaking rust. It seems to be lower half has a 1 inch crack but the upper part seems to be OK. I have noticed a sharp drop in ride comfort despite have new shockers fitted on Nov and my friend mechanic did not notice anything then. Apart from that the car is in good condition and I think the ride quality issue is down to that. My questions are;

How much for a recon subframe?
Is it a pig of a job to do?
How would I support a car on axle stands with out a subframe?

Any ideas peeps?

Check to make sure the car has not been jacked up in the centre of the subframe. Potentially you car is dangerous and should not be used. Post you email address and I'll send you the drawings but a lot has to come off and I doubt you will find a recon subframe. A new one is probably the only way to go if it is worth the cost. From memory there is a raised blister re-enforced in the floor pan with the alignment guide that supports the car during manufacture just behind the sub-frame, so it would have to sit on those.
