Did anybody watch it ?
is it worth downloading to Iplayer ?
|
Yes, I watched it and it was very interesting, - I dont want to say to much about it until the repeats have finished just incase some people havnt seen it yet
|
Yes quite watchable, but spoilt by that irritating Vicky Butler-Henderson

I wouldn't mind being "irritated" by her...:-)
I missed the programme (due to Champions League football causing it to slip my mind), but I did watch the A-Z one just after midnight on company sales reps and their cars in the 1990s.
Quite an eye-opener on how they rated their status on the cars to which they were handed the keys, the type of coat hanger used for their jackets whilst on the move and, in some cases, a determined attitude that "they shall not overtake" exhibited towards other reps in "base" models.
Some appalling driving habits on view as well.

Would have liked a bit more on the older progs, adverts, etc, I felt they concentrated too much on the current TG, even though they admitted it was more of an "entertainment" rather than "car" prog!
VBH was irritating, though one of the other ones (young, dark haired chap) was worse (sorry, don't know his name!).

Yes I would have like to have seen more about the older car shows and Adverts, as I?ve never seen them, I started watching Top Gear when it was the Original 30 min format for probably the last 6 series of it.
I then didn?t take to the new 1 hour top gear, and as such didn?t watch them, but i think after series 3 I did get into it - I think I have watched some of the ones I missed on Dave.
But it was mainly about the new Top Gear, I wanted to see more of the older Top gear that I fondly remember, but it was a worthwhile watch for an hour
I do remember the MK2 VW Golf AD, And another one where they are driving the Golf, and the driver hears this squeaking sound, a laughing mechanic found it to be the passengers ear ring.
Got me thinking though, I don?t ever remember seeing ads for the equivalent Astra / Escort Adverts ? although I was young at the time so didn?t get to watch that much ?grown up? TV

I have just found a few Mk1 and Mk2 Astra Ads on Youtube - brilliant stuff i love watching the ads like this, that I was to young to remeber
|
The programme tried to cover too much ground. Looked like a trainee producer attempt to me.
|
Not the best documentary the BBC have ever produced. More of an extended ad for Top Gear really.
I'm half way through watching the "a-b" programme than was on BBC4 a bit later last night. That really is an eye-opener and a nice look back at the repmobiles of the early 90s. I've not seen them all yet, but so far all of the featured drivers have had me thinking "pink fluffy dice" pretty much as soon as they start talking.
Darren.
I suggest you take a refresher course in this forum's no swearing policy

The Car Show is on again at 8PM tonight on BBC4.
|
Dancing on Ice is on at 7 for two hours. No contest!
What I mean is that getting my hands on the remote with 3 females in the house is an impossibility :-[
|
Now I know why I don't watch BBC4.
Lots of clips from old shows, lots of short sound bites from celebrities I hadn't heard of, and some I had, usually making totally inane comments. I guess it's a cheap way to get money for old rope, and a chance for some meeja tarts to get publicity.
Apart from that it was allright. Well, actually it was instructive to see how entertaining the new TG is, for all its faults, and thank goodness we do not have the dreadful Noel Edmonds.
