Hello there,
I have a friend whose driver's door lock no longer opens with the key. It has to be opened from the passenger side door. He has a 2003 VW Golf IV. Anyone have a suggestion for him?

Does it only have key and not remote central locking? VW's around this age did have lock problems. When I had a 1999 Golf GTi and 2000 Passat Sport, both had lock problems. but the problem was it would no lock properly all the time. They needed new locks.

It is very likely that the door lock/barrel shaft has broken.A very common fault on all VAG models.On older models a repair kit could be bought and the lock overhauled.Unfortunately on the Golf iv a new barrel has to be bought as a complete unit.From memory around £40.hth
