thanks for that but im hoping to hear from some peeps who have had one.

Its probably better to hear from people why they dont have one.

One thing that puts me off these cars are the availability or the price of spare parts. Otherwise they are just a reliable but boring motorcar with cheap if not durable interior

Very few people bought these in the UK. So how many members or friends/family of members have them?

Not sure I have seen a Shuma II on the road.
Some friends have a Shuma that must be ten years old and its going strong, but it must be worthless by now. However, assuming that it has gone wrong, then parts must be available. However, I suspect it has not gone wrong.

They sold more cars here than Renault did in the USA.
Its all down to local taste, the Shuma was designed to look like the US Ford Taurus and Escort. I'd not buy one as there other more popular Japanese/Korean cars for a little more, also isn't the insurance a little higher than most?

not hard - renault dont sell cars into the US.

Did, I think is the operative word.
Renault, along with a number of other budget Eurobox brands were forced out of the US market with their tails between their legs. The LeCar (5) in particular was seen as a nasty little thing over there, one step up (and only one step) from the Yugo.
It's only in Europe that you can place rickety technology in a dress and expect it to sell.

Erm...not sure where to start with that! Are we thinking of the same 'U.S.'?
