Hi There should be a EML light when you turn the key just before start the engine and then it should go off. I had the same problem with a Vauxhall Corsa the persson who I bought it off had cut the wire so the light was always off. I was having trouble with my car for afew weeks and took it to vauxhall to get it on the diagnostics and they said it was fine even as it wasnt showing a light. So I removed my instrument panel to find the wire and connected it back up and it works now and it showed the faults that I was having. Your problem might be that the bulb has gone or something like that. Hope it helps.
