"Breakthrough" was today apparently. I'm not sure why they can get that done in 2 years yet it will be at least another two years to get the road surface down and the A3 open.

In the North East they are building a new Tyne Tunnel which will open in Dec 2010, good news, we all think, as the existing tunnel is a source of severe congestion.
However, as soon as the new tunnel opens, the existing tunnel will close for refurbishment.
Back to square one, despite all the money and effort.

Thanks for the update.
>>"Breakthrough" was today apparently.
History was made this afternoon in a hole deep beneath the Hampshire countryside.
At 2.34pm two teams of workers broke through walls of rock in a road project which will ease the misery for thousands of drivers from the Portsmouth area.
