I have been given good advice from this site as to the cause of a dashboard fault, which now regures me to remove the rear tailgate inner panel. This is to gain access to the wash wipe mechinism. I do not see any visible fixings.... Is it all a snap connector fit.. OR something else? Any ideas please

I tried to remove the rear tailgate inner panel on my Passat Estate. Lots of snap off fasteners and, with difficulty and a lot of force, I got it about half way off (some did snap ) and thought err how am I going to get this lot together again. Could not manage it and eventually got the local independent VW repairer to do it during a routine service. Be cautious and have a plan 'B', IMHO.

My recollection is that there are a couple of recessed screws in the handle or similar.

Thanks guys for that.... Not very hopefull... Will try a bit of force in the morning (sunday) unless some one can give a further suggestion

Yes, one or 2 screws inside each of the the inner recessed handles. Then it's just held on by pop fasteners-they are quite tight. Flat edge (eg wallpaper scraper) to lever the trim then carefully work round. Careful not to break fasteners.
Once off you will find the sound deadening on the inside of the trim soaked with your washer fluid - take somewhere to dry it. You will probably see the washer pipe hanging off, either pop it back on and try to secure with a cable tie or cut the connector off and add in some new tubing, secured with ties.
I didn't remove the lock mechanism/switch to dry, just got my wife's hairdryer and dried it all out, think I looked a little odd to the neighbours.
Hope that helps, it's easy once you've done it, just need confidence to know that the trim will pop off if you apply enough force once the screws are out!
