Service History Not Given - Levi
Hi Guys,

Sorry Im a bit niave when it comes to cars.

So your help would be much appreciated.

I bought a car about a year ago from a car dealer. I got the advert off the internet and it stated there was a full service history.

I have a few problems with the car as the Dashboard has burnt out and needs to be sent back too Renault for repairs.

I went back to the garage and asked about the service history. They said it was given to me at the time and I know it wasnt.

Think they are trying to pull a fast one. Is there anyway I could find out the service history?

I bought the car on finance and still have two years left to pay for a car that doesnt work!

I can't see a) how you can prove you did not get the SH, given that it was over a year ago, or how the SH could help you in getting the dashboard repairs resolved. There are no service items in the dash, surely?

Sorry! I was going to get it sent off for the repairs anyway.

Just wanted to know if i can get the service history elsewhere. As I have heard that it knocks alot of value off the car?

Sorry its my first car!!

If it has a full Renault service history they will have a record on their system and for a fee may supply you with a new stamped book. If its not Renault you're stuffed. A year is way too long to leave it.

didnt you query the lack of service history when you got the car?

Your first car Levi is usually a fast learning curve, if we had a discussion of mistakes made at car purchase time we'd fill hundreds of pages.

The service history will be important should you wish to try and make a warranty claim, hopefully Renault have your car on their records.
If Renault won't honour warranty due to this, then find a recommended indy specialist instead, you bills will be lots less.

The history will be very important when you come to sell, if you can't find some proof, all you can do is keep all receipts of service's and reapiars you have done to prove to any subsequent buyer that you have looked after the car.

I don't think OP has given us the age of the car or have I missed it? Once it is more than about 5 years old the service history is useful but not essential, unlss it is a Merc or something similar. For me a bunch of original dated invoices with itemised costs of part and labour would mean much more than a book with stamps in it
