I see that a few back roomers think that a couple of days a year driving on snow gives them th skills of a World Rally Championship driver. Over Confident or what!
|
I think there's a slight difference between saying one enjoys driving in snow, and one claiming to have WRC driving skills.

How do you know what people's driving experience is, still less equate enjoying driving in the snow with imagining oneself having "th skills of a World Rally Championship driver", or come to the conclusion that people are "Over Confident "?
Perhaps I've missed the thread in which these things were indicated?

I had the skills of a World Championship Rally driver long before any snow fell and so do not feel the need to learn on snow .:-)

"the skills of a World Rally Championship driver"
I wish I had! But then I may have a bit more sense (?) than the 5 drivers stuck at the bottom of Bunny(!) Hill this morning, 2 of them still wildly revving their engines in first gear and going nowhere while I went along quite nicely in 3rd and up the hill without a trace of wheelspin.

Old navy - life's passing you by - get rallying!

There are some techniques used in rallying that are very very useful in this weather. The ability to read the road and judge the surface, the ability to not freeze up when the car is sliding, the ability to use either handbrake or left foot braking to correct severe understeer or tighten the line. In fact, the ability to drive more with "feel" than rely on the electronic box of tricks which gets awfully confused in this weather. These are not techniques that imply a cavalier or careless approach, more that of an interested driver perhaps more in tune with the conditions. The Scandinavians are brought up with these skills on everyday roads!

My Octavia doesn't let me do Left foot braking. It must cut off the fuel when the brake is applied. Pain in the ass.
|
Pretty much all VAG diesels do the same, maybe some of the petrols too.
The TCS on my Mondeo kicks in even when switched "off" in these conditions, the off switch just seems to raise the threshold a bit.

I couldn't possibly drive like a rally star...I'm too busy flashing motorists with no lights on!

Isn't it too cold this time of year to be opening your mac?
