How good are they? - Gregory II
Anyone owned a Hyundai here

On autotrader, they seem to be very reasonably priced. My question is, are the diesels reliable and has anyone had any experiences with them.

They seem to be very good cars.

We had a Trajet diesel which was reliable if a little slow and uneconomical, but then it was an automatic in a large and heavy car.

A few minor problems, and the quality of trim was relatively low (but since improved on more modern Hyundais). Overall a fair car.

A friend has a Santa Fe. Fine car, well trimmed, very reliable, but again diesel and auto and not especially economical. He dpes mainly motorway driving and gets 32mpg, which I was surprised about.

Have an Elantra Diesel with the same engine as the original Santa Fe and Trajet. just coming up to 100k miles and have had one or two small faults rectified under the 5 year warranty, the most notable being the security transponder/receiver intermittently failing to communicate. One major fault was a timing belt tensioner failing, however, owing to the shape and fit of the sturdy plastic upper housing, the outer race of the tensioner was held in place and kept enough tension on the belt to prevent any damage. Engine is willing, if not as refined and powerful as some modern units, and car is as comfortable as I need. Considering what I paid and the miles done with relatively low maintenance outlay I am very pleased and would buy another Korean car any day. It is lighter than the Santa and Trajet and returns 45 mpg at motorway speeds.

As an aside, my eyes are always drawn to Hyundai Coupes - and I have yet to see any rust on one.

i30 petrol with the smallest wheels has rather a firm suspension. Would be firmer with diesel and big wheels. Otherwise, very solid car, think Golf with some thousands off the price.

OH bought an i10 a few months ago. He is very pleased with it - nice to drive, seems well-built. He has a friend who is on his 2nd or 3rd coupe, loves them, and has had no trouble with any of them. Ok, a Hyundai will never be fashionable, but they are good value and seem well-liked by owners.

Have a 55 2.0 Coupe. Bought 1 year old so had it 2 1/2 yrs and it has been great. Never missed a beat Done about 30,000 mls in that time and got through set of tyres.
It is rubbish in the snow though!
Also have a 1.4CDX Getx -2 years old -good discount on new price and 3 yrs servicing thrown int. Has also been totally reliable.
Might change the Coupe this year for something smaller -but what?

I have a 1999 Coupe 2.0 SE; lovely car which combines good performance and driveability with a surprisingly large boot, and reasonable room for two adults in the back so long as they're not too tall.

I do get the odd jibe about "hairdresser's car" but most people admire it; I opted for that model with the twin headlights in preference to the later ones simply because I loved the frontal styling.

Lods of toys too and the only downside is that with 203 g/cm of CO2 the road tax is rather high for what it is. They have an enviable reputaion for reliability and I have to agree that I haven't seen a rusty one yet either.

And following HM's post, my son had a Accent mvi and a coupeF2, and he couldn't break either of them, totally reliable despite his best efforts.
He's several years older now and has broken a BMW 528 gearbox and his Subaru gearbox, the toughness of the Hyundai's is proved absolutely.

He must get it from his mother..;)

I'm waiting to see whether we may get a RWD version of the Genesis in due course.
