I know the subject of Costco and tyres has been discussed before but if anyone is interested they are doing 20% a set of 4 tyres. All Michelin off course. The offer ends 15 Feb.

I stand to save £95 on a set of 4 Primacy HPs - and would be glad to see the back of the Yokohamas with ridiculous tramlining capability.

Similar offers at ATS and KwikFit I think.

I seem to recall they've had better deals than this in the past.

When I rang them for a quote once they were more expensive, per tyre all in, than my usual, local independent.

I find that extremely hard to believe.

Were they for the exact same tyre?

last year a new chap at work was moaning that he needed a set of 4 tyres for his Seat and that it was going to cost him a fortune even though +wickfit had a 30% off sale if he bought 4.
i told him to try "blackcircles.com" which he did and bought the same model and brand of tyres from blackcircles for over 100 cheaper than the "sale" price at the fast fit centre. and yes that did include the fitting charge....

Yes, it was a Michelin Pilot Premacy for a Galaxy. The Costco price was about £3 more. I should add that Costco did not have a promotion on at the time.

>>The Costco price was about £3 more.

Although they don't make a fuss about it (like John Lewis) Costco will price match, although I aways wonder why people don't just buy from the cheaper place.

Ive used Costco a few times for tyres - without the discount they're about the same as the cheapest independant's or online prices (for the same Michelin tyres, of course). With the discount they're (obviously) 20% cheaper.

It's worth noting that the 20% is off any 4 tyres, so you could buy 2 for each of two cars and still get the discount.

I find Costco's prices at least the same as blackcircles etc for tyres they have in stock.

When I look for tyres they don't have in stock the prices a a few quid more.

You'll not see a 20% off promotion on the internet sites tho.

Just got 4 Michelin Latitude 215/65 H16 for a CR-V to replace BF Goodrich (at 3mm) and with the stiffer sidewalls, the car feels less roly-poly and is gripping much neater than before (also the old ones were becoming unbalanced so there's no wobble on braking now!).

I think I paid about £320 for all 4 tyres using the 20% off deal before Xmas.

My local family-owned tyre place is consistently cheaper than even Blackcircles or Mytyres and they will match the price if they're not. It certainly pays to shop around.
Tyres - 20% off 4 - quizman
The good thing about Costco is that it is 20% off an already competitive price.
Unlike National, ATS and especially Kwikfit which have 20% off a very high price and extra for balance and valves.
Yes it does pay to shop around these days.

Fancy Honda fitting inferior tyres to their cars!

I guess it depends on the size, but all the tyre websites I see cannot match Costco. In fact, the Costco fitted price for Michelins is about the same cost(within a quid) as the cheapest fitted tyre of any brand in other places. And that's before the 20% off.

They don't, BFG are owned by Michelin, BFG don't have any manufacturing plants anywhere in the world, would you like to guess where they're made?
Tyres - 20% off 4 - quizman
I've got 2 BFG tyres on an old tractor which were made in Poland.

I've 4 BFG tyres on my Landrover which I am pretty sure were made in the good ole USA.

Is my answer correct, Dox?
Tyres - 20% off 4 - George Porge
We used to make BFGs at Michelin Stoke for OE LR, that was until they shut down car tyre production at Stoke in 2000
Tyres - 20% off 4 - Pendlebury
I think Marc is correct but what I found was that last Nov when Costco were doing this deal they were £126 per corner. Currently for the same tyre - Michelin HP Primacy they are £117 a corner and 20% off that. For my size of tyre the nearest mytyres.co.uk can get to is £128 a corner - so for me costco are working out very good at the moment.
Having said all that I had them fitted today - they did a good job and I have to say that these have transformed the car - it is quieter, a subtly smoother and more comfortable ride and no tramlining whatsoever - the wheels are the 17in Penta Honda alloy.

They don't, <<

Good man Dox - keep defending us - there have been one or two too many bad posts on here about Honda lately - I was thinking about calling a truce - not now your on my side :-)

PS - the point would be true if they meant the Yokohamas.

Girl at work got a good price from a fast fit for two tyres.

Shame she came out with a bill for 800 pounds !

They talked her into loads of other jobs that they just happen to be experts at.

It's the same old tricks.

Cheap tyres are just a come on in most of these places.

That never happens at Costco.

I need two tyres for the Pug. 17" wheels (didn't upgrade when I bought it-thought they'd be cheaper). Over £300! A weird size apparently.

If you're not a member, ask around among friends and colleagues who might be.

I hate the Costco shopping experience, but can't deny that they do deal in top-quality products. Even the farmers I know buy their meat there. The one thing I won't do again is have tyres fitted there. I now aim to get wheels refurbed when tyres are changed, so the refurbers can do the fitting with the care you'd expect because they wouldn't want to spoil their fresh work.
Tyres - 20% off 4 - quizman
Yes Roger, the meat at Costco is excellent, as are the Michelin tyres, Bosch batteries, the wine and beer and most of the other goods, unlike some other warehouses.

The only downside of Costco is that you could spend a fortune while you wait for the tyres to be fitted.

I'd heard that from several sources. However Costco Chester did mine and left them totally unmarked. I did put Vaseline around the rims and around the edges of the bolt recesses first and made it clear to them that the wheels were absolutely unmarked before they started.

I'd had a pair or tyres fitted previously at a good looking idependant operation and they broke the surface right around both rim edges and gouged the face of one of the wheels. They did offer to pay for them to be refurbed but as the car was only 18mths old and refurb would void the warranty I wouldn't have been happy with anything other than new wheels and that was never going to happen.

I'm pretty sure Police Officers can join, as can NHS and all sorts of government employees and various professions.

I got trade membership when one near us opened and our company had just started - only difference with trade membership is you can in from 10AM, it's 12AM otherwise (no idea if that's enforced, never tried in practice).
My company ID was a letterhead I'd created and printed at home and an invoice (also printed out at home) in the company name for some inkjet cartridges. I used my home utility bill as proof of address.

I'll have to give it a go. (Although their isn't one near me which doesn't help)

Don't suppose someone could price up two Michelin 215/55/r17 (oem fit) to see if it's worth the effort. (Is that being too cheeky :) ) Best price I've had so far is £150 each.

£177.20, for Michelin Exalto 2, W speed rating, not XL. Primacy HP's are not made in that size.

They said it's an unusual size, pretty well only used on Peugeot 407.

I checked BlackCircles and their fully fitted price is £175.88 so if you can get for £150 you're doing very well.

Of course, if you bought 4 (it can be any 4 tyres) during the 20% off period, then Costco would end up a little cheaper at £141.76

Many thanks for that. There was me thinking sticking with 17" alloys would keep costs down :)

Still undecided whether to go with the original Michelins or go for a Pirelli/Goodyear, which are around £40/tyre cheaper.
Tyres - 20% off 4 - Lygonos
215/55/ZR17 is standard Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo size.

I think I was quoted about 160 each for Michelins from Costco (without 20% off).

The original Yokohama Geo'squealers' are not great on tarmac.

Pirelli P7s are another popular choice.

Thanks for the tip Pendlebury - Mrs Dugong had thrown the offers leaflet away before I saw it. Just had 5 x Michelin Latitude 215/65/16 102T on the CR-V for £415. Current Blackcircles price £530. They only give the discount on 4 though - perversely you get a worse unit price for 5 than 4.

They fitted bright green dustcaps - apparently this signifies that they are filled with nitrogen.
