how did they manage to make the steering wheel look exactly like the toyota badge?

PR release straight from the marketing manual for a new launch - means we finally sorted out the production bugs, got the suppliers producing and delivering components on time, and we can now up the line speeds to those originally planned - now comes the tricky bit selling them

Have you seen the advert though? Ever so corny and to me made Vauxhall look a bit foolish.

I notice the Opel Grille (no V) ready for pulling the plug on Vauxhall?

Probably not the case as it would seem Gordon has got the European rights to the Vauxhall/Opel version of the Chevrolet Volt for Ellesmere Port. There was a time in Vauxhall styling history before the V grill you know - same as there used to be Vauxhall flutes on the bonnet.

and the rear end looks like the new mazda.

I think they designed it from bits of photos of toher cars stuck to a board.

I like the rear end, it?s the front that looks a little odd to me - although I?ve yet to see one in the flesh (so to speak)

>> I notice the Opel Grille (no V) ready for pulling the plug on Vauxhall?

As for the V I don?t like the fact its not there ? and I thought it was a nice way of telling us that the Vauxhall brand is going to be scrapped, but I think that Vauxhall is a important brand for this country.

But im biased and although its been discussed before on this forum ? it means a lot to me that it?s a Vauxhall and Not a Opel (I?m fully aware that of course it Its made by Opel) as much as I appreciate everyones opinion and I love this site/forum and the people on here I don?t want to turn this into a big discussion on why people will think I?m odd (as it more or less went on the other discussion about the Vauxhall brand) it means a lot to me

Clearly the unanimous "good, but not as good as a Mondeo" reviews haven't done much harm.

Looks OK. The kind of car I'd be happy to have as a company car, or to buy ex fleet at 3 yrs old for peanuts, but not much else. Styling is a weird mix of Toyota, BMW and Chrysler to my eyes.

Probably a good car, Vauxhalls usually are. But do you want one?

Cheers

"Not as good as a Mondeo"? The Insignia fought the Mondeo to a draw in a giant test on www.autozeitung.de . Neither car won the contest, however ......

I like it. I sat in one at the London motor show last year. The interior is a step change in quality.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - stunorthants26
I saw my first one today, in black. Chrome trim stood out and it looked alot less heavyset than the Mondeo. Not a bad looking thing. On style, id pick it over the Mondeo.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - cattleman6
In the looks department the new Citroen C5 is a superb looking car in black, even better than the excellent new Insignia. The Insignia is far better looking and better interior quality than the Mondeo. The Mondeo is an amazingly good car though. General Motors seem to have done themselves proud with the Insignia.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - Pugugly
There's a first drive/test on Fifth Gear on Monday. The Insignia may prove somewhat less prone to niggles than the C5
Insignia apparently defies downturn - cattleman6
I am sure the insignia will do very well. I am surprised if the C5 has too many problems. I thought Citroen had finally got their act together with the big plans of sister company Peugeot.
I heard an intervoew with one of the heads at Peugeot. I know Citroen and Peugeot share engines with Ford etc. If the French managed to bring the two giant parts of roadway together on that new giant bridge above the clouds in France (not a millimeter out),there is absolutely no excuse for bad Citroens!!!! Jokes apart,I can't believe that they don't take pride and fix things up. VW's VAG group certainly did a good job of Seat and Skoda.

I've seen one or two - we moved offices over christmas and are now right next door to a VX/Saab/Chevrolet dealer, and I'm not taken with what i've seen, but who knows, these things can grow on you.

If the car market is depressed, how come we can never get out of our new offices as the view to the right is always blocked by car transporters obscuring the view of approaching traffic - never one at a time, usually two of them, three in a row on thursday morning. Are they just shifting stock from one dealership to another ?
Insignia apparently defies downturn - gordonbennet
aarrgh, i've delivered my first insignia today, and its got the dreaded electric handbrake...

Oh well that's off my list.

Mine's a funny job really PU, you tend not to take too much notice really. Sorry to disappoint .

Its jolly wide with much wider track, very large tyres SE spec, but about the same wheelbase (i know it sounds odd but this type of thing is important to chaps who carry them).
Quiet engine, one thing really stood out though, in common with most cars of that type the rear pillars are huge and the rear window high and small, again that sort of thing means more to me than the usual buyer.

Other than that its another FWD car, and we all know what they're like.;;)

".... in common with most cars of that type the rear pillars are huge and the rear window high and small; again that sort of thing means more to me than the usual buyer..."

Quite agree, GB. Would anyone like to come in and defend this (to me) objectionable and potentially dangerous stylistic fad? It seems to me that the chances of hitting a child while reversing are much greater, and there are disadvantages even while driving forwards (e.g. changing lanes).

The Honda Civic and old-shape Renault Megane are obvious examples, and there are lots more - not fortunately, my VW Golf estate or SWMBO's Mini Cooper.

Someone somewhere must think this a good idea....I don't think I'd ever agree with it but I'm open-minded enough to listen.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - rtj70
I would hazard a guess at rear impact strength. Euro NCAP will introduce this soon so cars have to be stronger? So more metal.

Rear vision could be helped via other means but rear protection from impact needs metal.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - cattleman6
It's a good car, but I can't stand electric handbrakes. They must be reliable when used millions of times!!! I prefer the pull up one!!!
Insignia apparently defies downturn - Alby Back
I don't like electronic handbrakes either. Probably irrational but there it is. It would be enough to sway me to a car with the conventional setup. Friend has a Passat estate with one and he admits to disliking it for that reason.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - DP
The Scenic has one, and I didn't like the idea of it originally, but in fairness to it, it has been reliable and completely innofensive in 2 yrs. The only annoying thing is that, due to driving the car quite infrequently, I still reach for the lever that isn't there the first few times I stop or pull away. I do the same with the ignition key that's in my wallet.
As long as it doesn't go wrong, this stuff is fine with me.

DP, I changed my Scenic for an Altea XL a couple of years ago and the two things I miss most are the keyless entry and the electric handbrake.

One issue on the handbrake is when you have two cars and one is a normal handbrake, and you get out it assuming that it has came on automatically........

Now I have a similar but different problem, the Altea has reversing sensors, the Beetle doesn't.......
Insignia apparently defies downturn - Altea Ego
I would swop reverse sensors for electric handbrake *every* time.

my wheelie bin thinks they are the best thing since sliced bread and offers prayers to them every tuesday morning. Its life is transformed.
Insignia apparently defies downturn - Avant
The Altea is another one with metal at the rear where there should be glass (ditto the Leon and new Ibiza). If you had a car with decent visibility, you'd see the wheelie bin and could decide all for yourself whether you felt like hitting it.

Our council is Wokingham DC and, bless them, they don't have wheelie bins. I just have ordinary old-fashioned dustbins - just imagine the fun and games if I had a car like an Insignia, Civic or Altea without parking sensors......
Insignia apparently defies downturn - Old Navy
I used a C Max with an electric handbrake for a couple of weeks, enough to put me off buying a car with one.

Just another ugly front end which will, no doubt, be hoovering up to my rear view mirror with inappropriate (and no doubt) illegal speed, in years to come.

I had thought of tweaking the subject line to reflect the content of the post - I think the poster got it about right first time -PU

Give me a 2.0T SRi with 4x4 and the electronic rear diff any day.

Shame you can't get the full ergo seats and elec diff on the 2.8T 4x4 Elite though. Might be worth holding out for a later VXR model, should they do one.

Ah, delivered a SRi t'other day and lo and behold a proper handbrake, much nicer.

That was a manual (on 20" wheels no less), i wonder if manuals have a proper handbrake and auto's the electric one?

My local dealer today is advertising 09 Reg Insignia 1.8 Exclusiv for £11997, an alleged saving of £4643 on list price.

By my rough figures thats a 28% discount on a brand new model!!
