Just noticed an advertisement in my local paper. My nearby Vauxhall dealer is offering brand new, new shape Vectras for £12600-thats £2000 off list price. Now if they are already discounting to this extent, on a new model, it doesn't bode well for the future. This is the very reason why I recently decided on a year old Passat, as opposed to a mainstream model.

Is this price for a pre registered car (why do they call it that when it is ALREADY registered?) and only on a specific model?
By importing the 1.8 Elegance as an Opel, you can actually save £3440 on this car.

It's not pre-registered, but applies to the 1.8 club model. This does appear to be quite well specified, (alloys, cruise and all the other usual toys.) My thought was why is a Vauxhall dealer discounting new UK cars so heavily, so early. The residdual nightmare begins.

I know that the company car market is becoming irrelavant but it needs to be said that tax is paid on a formula linked to the list price and so by setting an unrealistic list price Vauxhall are shooting themselves in the foot. I think they need to get more real.

Rental companies will be getting 40-50% discount so who really gets a bargain ?
|
A similar reason why a 5 Series will sit in my drive and not another Omega next year. I dont want to flush my money down the toilet no matter how happy I would be with a new Omega.
|
Buy a second hand one, say a year old and save probably over 50%! I'd never buy new unless I won the lottery or had money to burn, unless someone else buys it for you!

....sorry to hear about the 5 series :-)
