I have been having problems with wheel wobble.
Three different tyre depots have tried to cure the problem with little success.
It has been suggested that On Car Balancing may be the only answer.
However all attempts to locate anyone still offering this service have failed.
Does anyone know if this is
A) Likely to work?
B) Available anywhere within a resaonable distance of Herefordshire?

On car balancing might work, but the chances are that if standard wheel balancing has failed, then it won't.
Most likely reason for failing to balance is that one of the tyres is faulty or damaged. You would prove this by either replacing the tyres, or swapping the fronts with the rears.
Alternatively, once this has been eliminated, there is a fault in the suspension. Probably either a worn suspension bush or faulty shock absorbers. (Or does your C5 have the hydraulic suspension?)

If a tyre had a loose piece of something or other inside it, it would make it impossible to balance properly. Just a thought.

Is it just one wheel that is affected or a pair? Where is it or where are they located - Front or rear?

The wheels affected are on the front. Each depot I take them to, and in one case the same depot on the same day, find that both wheels need rebalancing! The car itself has the C5 Hydraulic suspension.
The idea of on car wheel balancing was suggested by Citroen Centre in Oxford, when they had the car in for servicing. They usually know whats what with C5s!

You need to have the tyres removed and the alloys very closely inspected for out of roundness, rim damage and balance on the sensitive setting (5 gm). Get them to remove the rim and then refit it 180 degrees out and check the balance again. In spect the tyres and ensure there is no water/condensation in the tyres. Have them refit the tyres and check the balance again. Assuming they are alloys then you need to use a trype place thet knows how to balance them with adhesive weight on the inner and out surface of the allow, not just the middle weight conpromise. If all is well then this should either identify the problem of resolve the issue. Regards Peter

Are they cheap tyres? That could be the basis of the balance problems.

I was wondering about that. They are Federals which had been OK for about 10 months then this problem suddenly started. It seems a bit costly to ditch them after 8000 miles, but if the wobble carries on I might end up with White Finger syndrome!

Why stick them on the rear then and put the rear wheels to the front. If the tyres are going out of round you should be less likely to feel it if they are on the rear.

Are your wheels of the solid centre type? My 306 was a year old when I needed some tyres. The local big firm made a right hash of it, spoiling my alloys and a weekend away we were about to go on. The alloys needed to be re-coated. I then found a place that could balance this type of wheel. The lads hate them though cause they are gits to do and the carrier needs to be changed then changed back. Regards,

Tyremen on Anlaby Road Hull do on car wheel balancing.
Had a similar problem with a new Merc V-Class turned out the 2 front wheels were buckled.

Tyremen on Anlaby Road Hull do on car wheel balancing.
I had on-car balancing done once (in about 1970), and I wouldn't have it done again. The front of the car was raised so the wheels were clear of the ground. The existing balance weights were removed and the wheels were spun up to speed by pushing a rotating roller up to the sidewall. The vibration was so bad that I thought the bonnet was going to fly off, and the damage to the tyre sidewalls was considerable. Perhaps they have a better system now, but I personally wouldn't risk it.

If you can't tell if wheels are buckled without going to a garage, you shouldn't be driving!!!!

The dealer supplied the vehicle brand new with buckled wheels, only indication was a vibration at 55mph. The wheels were rebalanced at the dealers and several tyre depots without anyone realising there was a problem.
