Hello all. Great forum this.
My question : The ignition barrel of my 405 is busted. Can I get a new one that will work with the SAME key?
Am trying to avoid having to change all locks and only want to use one key for everything.
Cheers, Neil.

AFAIK as long as the Peugeot dealer can find your lock details in their database they can make up a barrel to fit your key.Removal of the old one is fairly straightforward if it is working, bit more difficult otherwise.

hi thanx for your reply.
what does the dealer need to find lock details on the database? is there a code on the barrel? or perhaps i have some kind of key code somewhere in my documentation?

Normally 2 x or 3x the price of a conventional off the shelf key and barrel.
If the car is old, not normally worth going to the extra expense.

ok sooo...having had a look around i'm thinking about doing this :
buy new ignition barrel + key blade.
put key blade in old key fob.
use that key for ignition and auto-central locking
hence no need for old key (apart from boot and emergencies)
does this sound feasible?

That's ok, except that you're relying on the remote being 100% reliable for unlocking the car. They never are - the battery can fail, and if there's a lot of radio interference they don't work either.
Fifteen or so years ago, I had a lock fail on a Ford which I had. I bought the 'lock kit' from the parts department. I had the key number, and it was quite simple to build up the new lock to suit the existing keys.

I would of course keep both keys with me!
