Considering buying one of these second hand.
Vauxhall indicate that cambelt changes are 40,000 miles/4 years up to 2002 for Astras.
Thereafter it says "Check with dealer".
I think the revised interval might be 60,000 miles/6 years.
Anyone know the answer?

The Z18XE engine = 6yrs, or 60,000 miles.
The Z16XEP engine = 10 yrs, or 100,000 miles.
Info correct as of Aug 2006. I am not aware that Vauxhall have updated this info.
I have a copy of a service laminate from Vauxhall for the Astra-H that has the intervals of all the engines, but I don't have the url link to hand. Will post later as it is in the favourites list on my other pc.

Dave,
I list the Z16XEP/Z18XE as 60,000 miles 6 years. The Z18XER is 100,000 10 years. (2008 data.)

Bearing in mind experiences with Fords, 10 years, 100,000 miles seems an excessively long period for cambelts.
Do they really last this long?

Its not so much the cambelt that usually fails, it's the tensioner.
Anyway, here's the link I mentioned earlier. Looking at tony@tooting's post, it *may* be out of date though.

The simple reason the later Ford Zetec belt lasts for 100,000 miles 10 years is because Gates designed it, not Ford.
