Radiator Leak Stopper - LinuxGeek
My car's radiator has got a really small leak at the bottom of it. Mechanic can't look at it until coming Friday. I was suggested to temporarily pour in radiator leak stopper liquid but I'm not entirely sure if its a good idea. I don't want it to block anything that's needed to run the cooling system properly. Right now I'm just driving car to and from work and its 10 miles journey one way. I fill up the radiator before setting off and it easily gets me to my destination so I don't know if its well worth the risk?

Some form of quickset epoxy putty to plug the outside of the radiator, maybe?
if the radiator is accessible, scrub the area with washing up liquid, dry off, and slap the putty on as a temporary measure.

I can third that - used Barrs Leaks many times over the years.

It was always reckoned to be the best product of its type.

I used radweld to 'fix' a slightly leaky heater matrix in one of my bangernomics Omegas, that lasted 50,000 miles without impacting the efficiency of the cooling system to a noticeable degree.

I've used Holts Radweld in the past without any problems.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll just get Barr's Leaks then and hopefully that would sort me out. The leak seems to be really tiny because a drop of water comes out after few seconds so hopefully this would sort it out. Its qualities of water pump lubrication and corrision resistance are also appealing.
Thanks a lot :)

MazMan,

Be guided by the instructions, but bear in mind Barrs might take a little while to work.

I put some in an XJ6 to fix the heater matrix and the car needed a run of 30 odd miles before it sealed the leak.

I've used Barr's several times with no ill effects, and it lasted as long as I had each car.

Barrs Leak is THE best!

I second Barr's Leaks - it kept many a dodgy radiator in some of my cars of yesteryear in action for considerably longer than would have been the case.

Ok bought the Barr's Leak from the local motor factor and it seems to have done the job really well. :)
Poured the whole thing in the radiator, then filled the radiator with water/anti-freeze mixture and there doesn't seem to be any water leakage anymore! I'll monitor it for next couple of days though just to make sure its fixed for good. Thanks for all your help in this matter gentlemen. Have a good xmas :)

Good news.
Keep a bottle of water and antifreeze mix in the boot, just in case.

Both Barr's Leaks and Holts Radweld are mentioned in this thread.

I expect they do the same job, but Barr's was always the one the trade used and you had to go to a motor factors to buy it.

Whereas Radweld came from Halfords and was used by the, er, home bodger.

Only in Britain could the class system be applied to radiator sealants.

Bar's Leak professional was the one to use-basically just the Blocking agent without the water pump lubricant. Some truck manufacturers used to put it in new vehicles.
