Micra or Citroen ZX? - oldtimer
Hi,
I fancy either a Micra (93 on) or Citroen ZX diesel.
I would appreciate any comments/advice on what to look out for on either model also any likes/dislikes.
Thanks, Oldtimer.

I've just bought a ZX 1.9D. Looking thru the internet, the faults I've found are numerous, mostly failing dashboard lights. I've just got mine with worn CV joints and a pile of dashboard lights in the glovebox (and a dim dash!). I think the ZX is a better-built car than the Micra - and the Micra is a bit of a joke compared to other cars these days. Having driven both now, I have found that the ZX is far roomier and feels a bigger car. The choice is yours but I would advise doing as much research as you can into both cars before paying out. Check out Parker's Used Car Guide (£3.50 in newsagents) for model history and known faults. Good luck, but don't rush in!
Regards

My girlfriend has a Micra (2000 X reg.) which I belive you could get for £3500 from Nissan (see HJ column)

The ONLY problem we have had with the car was that the wheel alignment was incorrect on delivery.

The car does 48mpg regularly around town and has been hassle free and doesnt suffer from huge depreciation.

The Citroen might be a better car but will probably give more trouble.

They seem like two very different cars for a direct comparison though.

I've a 96 zx td 106000mls, touch wood, no major problems. Very economical, most parts can be interchangable with the Pug 306. Again from the web, Pugs and ZX in years 97/98 had problems with con-rods going through the block around 40k to 60k mls, very rare, but it happens although they have been properly serviced. Why, no one seems to know. Its a car I'd recommend, with very little rust problems etc. rather than a micra which are rare for parts??

Im on my 2nd zx.
First one was 8v volcane, now driving a 16v 2.0l and the only problems i have had are the brakes on the 8v needed new pipes and flexis for the rear(my mate has been driving it for almost 9 months now and has had no probs).
I recently replaced an ignition coil, but thats it in 9 months motoring.Smooth ride and excellent handling too.
