Wife currently has a 2000 Mazda 323 1.5 with around 85,000 miles on the clock. Wife has said that she wants a Nissan Note for her next car and I would prefer it to be a diesel.

Cost to change budget will be between £1000 to £1500, bassed on a 2006 1.5 DCi Note, I think we will have to wait until 2012 before this comes feasible, or have a got my caculations wrong.

BTW would do people think of the Note and can the DCI engine be remaped

I've had one for a year, a 1.4 SE. I bought it instead of a Focus 2, which we found very thirsty and noisy. It's a very practical family runaround, with good handling and great around town, even though it's not actually that small. Averaging about 43 mpg at the moment, about 46mpg in the summer and 50 on a run. Performance is fine and longer trips are comfortable, cruises quite happily at 75 to 80, if a little noisy. I don't have any complaints, to be honest.
Stay away from the SVE, which has a unique set of tyres /sizes, costing a fortune to replace. You'll pay a premium for the 1.5 diesel, which is a Renault belt drive unit. Why would you want to re-map it, it does 60 mpg as it is! The petrol engines are chain cam Nissan units - no problems although the related Micra engine had an issue with timing chain wear on the earlier units.
If it's not in budget, plenty of other similar options will be, have a look at the old-shape Yaris or current Daihatsu Sirion for example.
Cheers

If you are just after the "extra" space over the normal car check out the Fabia Estate 1.9SDi... its more practical than the Note and just as economical.

Thanks for the replies, have ruled out the 1.4 as underpowed and will look at the 1.6 or the diesel.

Will stay away from the SVE

Is there any issues with regards to the DCI?

The reason why I was thinking about getting it remaped was to give it a bit more performance.

With regards to budget not looking to change at present was just currious if 2012 the Note would come with in our budget of £1000 to £2000 cost to change figure

Darling Brown cannot predict what will happen with the economy three months ahead, so it is a tough call to predict used car prices in 2012!

>BTW what do people think of the Note ...

Daughter had a Note for a few months, but got rid because she found the seats uncomfortable (she is 5-foot and has short legs - no comments please). She swopped it for a Qashqai which solved her problem. But hubby works for Nissan so that was easier than for most people.

Car itself was fine AFAIK.

I drive a 1.6 petrol Auto SVE which I have driven every day for 2 years and found it to be 100% reliable. The engine and auto box are very smooth. I am aware of the cost of tyres for the SVE but for the mileage I do it is not a big worry for me as I only do 8000 miles per year and I expect to get another years use out of them. I drive 95% in urban traffic and fuel consumption is 33 MPG however on a run I get 41 MPG, hope this is of use to you.

Thanks for all the replies, what are the Notes rivals, are any of them six years old, if so will see what prices they are fetching as this should give some idea of what the Note will be worth at six years.
